Biography
I have been teaching voice since gaining my APRSMDip (Teaching, Voice) in 2009. I since went on to further study, first at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow and now at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where she is studying on the MA Opera programme. Over the years, I have taught a wide variety of singing styles from Classical and Folk to Rock and Bollywood; and I enjoy exploring new genres as a way of getting to know more about the expressive qualities of the voice.
I believe in student-led practice. Students have come to me for many different reasons, and as such, I always strive to teach the individual and not the song. In the past, I have taught voice to help pass exams and to study music as a subject or profession, but also to help with confidence and anxiety issues, prepare a surprise for a special occasion or to explore vocal/creative boundaries that singer/songwriters may face. I also teach musicianship individually and in groups and have had lots of fun leading community choirs in Scotland. I am familiar with the ABRSM syllabus and have helped vocal students and novice piano students through exams.
I have always enjoyed tutoring and teaching – finding ways to engage pupils in areas they find challenging. Having begun tutoring at an early age, I enjoy communicating information and investigating problems alongside the pupil.
As a teacher, I support my pupils in any way that they require. My calm and focussed approach will guide you on the path to discovering your unique voice and inspire you to enjoy singing as the most expressive gift anyone has to give.
